GENESIS CH 4

V1. Then Adam had sexual intercourse with Eve – how he knew to do the course?
1. It can be a natural thing
2. He might have observed other creatures. The passion for each other which God has in build made them join as one in flesh.

She conceived – 1. God gave success to their sexual life. 2. It was the fulfillment of Gods command 1:26 “multiply and fill the earth and subdue it”. 3. He who gave us command will also will help us to fulfill the same in our lives.

Gave birth – 1. how much she might have had pain for the first time 2. They do not know how to do it, since there were no hospitals or experienced women who help in time of delivery. Angels might have served them as attendants to help getting the child come out of Eve’s womb 3. They had excitement of their first child to see coming to earth.

to a son – 1. Son was the first created being 2. Son was first born son. Ps 127:3 “Sons are gift from God”(NIV) though some other translations say children are heritage from God.

Cain – meaning of Cain is “I have created” eve excited and said I have created or another human being is born through me or came out of me.

With the help of God I have created a man – she gave credit to God, in spite of her hard labor in delivery and 9 months of caring her. She acknowledged that I cant do it myself alone, but buy the help of God. We should never boast about our accomplishments. Ps 127:1 – unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain…” V2.

Next child Abel- mean breath, vapor – 1. God helps children to come into this world 2. Some turn to be good and some to worse.

Abel became shepherd – 1. His name has cam first than Cain the first born. Mat 19:30 but many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. 2. Abel became the Shepherd. 1. A father of all those shepherds. 2. Sheep’s were chosen by God as domestic animals from the beginning. 3. The first job, or the type of job work they had received from God was shepherding. This first shepherd was killed for the best offering he made. Jesus the shepherd was killed for being acceptable offering to God. Cain represents the world that killed Abel and Jesus.

Cain was a farmer – father of all farmers. 1. Farms the plants that are sticking to earth, means plants. A plant needs to be rooted in earth all their life. This represents the mind set of earthly roots. Whose thoughts and future of living is living on earth 2. They are immovable. In clutches of earthly life. Mat 9:37 “harvest is plentiful, labors are few..” people living in earthly life(sin) or more, laborers the shepherds are less. Are we in line of Abel the shepherd who is Jesus or in line of Cain who is the world.

V3. At harvest time – we can take it as worship time, or when we should give to God from the result of our labor…. Cain brought the Lord – it was the elder brothers turn to bring first to the Lord. The seniors or the older people should be the first to give and show an example to others or the younger ones in the family, community or in church. Adam taught his children to give God from the produce. How Adam has learned to give? GOD might have taught Adam to give God first fruits, tithes and the best of their earnings. Adam did not forget God or anger on God even after sending Adam away from the Garden of Eden. Adam was faithful to God. God also did not leave Adam in His anger for disobeying. God continued to show His mercies and love for Adam. God gave wisdom to Adam how he can cultivate and do other things for their survival. That’s how Adam and his family members learned to be thankful to God and offered God from their produce. a gift of his form produce – from the fields, jobs and any other livelihood means we earn, should be and must be a gift to God. What could be the best of Cain’s field?

Gen 4:4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, (NKJ) Abel also brought – now the younger brother saw the elder one. Younger in our family, community and church should learn from the parents, elders how to give to God. the firstborn of his flock – Abel gives first fruits, first born his folk and livelihood. Let us put God first. Why? It is Gods and everything we have is His. and of their fat – 1. fat cut is pleasing aroma offering to God. We must know what pleases to God and offer the same. We should not offer to God the left back ones. 2. Fat contains oil. Oil is anointment and holiness. We must offer our lives to God in holiness and sin free life. Cain did not add oil to his field offering. It was dry and no aroma in it, that is why God could not take it. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering – it was that anointing and pleasing life of offering to God is respected by God.

V5 Did not respect cain and his offering. – for doing an unworthy and unhealthily offering, Cain was not respected by God
